so in the last post i covered the making of the invites for my friend's wedding in march. after that was done, i then designed the bonbonierre, orders of service, menus and table numbers. it was such a big job! it was my own fault though - i suggested the bonbonierre vinyl-sticker idea and so gave myself more work!

the first and biggest job was the bonbonierre. i previously worked for a company that did a lot of signage, so lots of self-adhesive vinyl (sav) printing, so i knew a bit about it. the original idea was to use votives as bonbonierre and wrap them in translucent paper, but printing on translucent paper has its issues. so i suggested the sav print wrap for the votives. this proved to be harder than i thought, since the glasses, although looking like they had straight sides, were actually a bit slanted, meaning that the design had to be an arc. oh man, i had to pull out my old maths knowledge to design that one - i tried wrapping the votive with contact, but that was fairly messy and inaccurate (and i am nothing if not a perfectionist!).

votives

in the end, i managed to get a nice arc, which i then had to get the design to fit (it had to arc too). after a few annoying test prints, i finally got one that was perfect - it joined together perfectly, and appeared to be parallel to the glass all around!!

so after the votives were designed and printed, the bride and i got together for a full day of wedding-preparation. erin did the sticking of the vinyl print to the votives (and did a great job of it too - way more patience than me!), while i worked on the orders of service.

orders of service

we had the orders of service covers printed with the rest of the invitation on the raleigh via felt stock. the cover was printed on the 270gsm stock. i was lucky enough to know a printer with excess cream stock that he didn't want, so was given the paper for the internal pages. we had to print these closer to the wedding day and so had to print them on a home printer. because of this and the amount of paper i was given, i restricted the orders to 4 pages, which did mean a bit of manipulation of the text to make it fit. the double pages also had to fit within the printer margin of an inkjet printer...

i am quite a fan of sewing paper together, so i sewed the orders together through the spine with pink cotton. that was my job... and oh what fun it was... the damn cardstock did not like feeding through the sewing machine!!! every 6 or so invites, it would jam. in the end, though, it was worth it because they look so pretty.

the table numbers and menus were the easiest part to do.. thankfully, as everything else was really labour-intensive!
i put a little note on the table numbers to let people know that they could take their votive. everyone must have liked them because there were only a few left behind!
